Kathryn Seque from Dunedin holds the title for 2016-2017 Landlord of the year.
Kathryn is the youngest winner of this prestigious award and is proactive with the many changes landlords are faced with at present. She thinks innovatively with her tenant contact form, and the photo form which she gives to tenants to check and then attaches it to the first inspection report, and the use of trademe, facebook and facebook advertising along with her own website.
Her desire to upgrade Dunedin’s rental market making Dunedin a nicer place to live is commendable and certainly conforms with New Zealand’s warmer, drier healthier homes stand.
Her investing journey has been moulded from her family lifestyle. Kathryns dad Cliff, and mum Roseann Seque have been investing in property since 1973. Initially buying blocks of flats in the City Rise and houses in South Dunedin area.
They started buying student investment properties in 1992 and since then have continued to invest and develop in this area, demolishing old run down houses and building new high end student rental accommodation.
This accommodation was aimed at the international student market and each flat came fully furnished. The last few years Kathryn came on board to take over the management of the families properties along with her own portfolio, while Cliff takes care of the day to day maintenance. Recently they have moved into developing studio rooms.
